I started Coaching because after a break up from a serious relationship and the stress of buying and renovating my first home I finally felt ready to concentrate on myself.
I had always been an active person as a teenager spending years as a dancer and Gymnast but had lost this in my adult life becoming more sedentary in an office job.
I joined the gym a year before I started personal coaching but did what I think many others do, I didn’t know how to achieve the goal I wanted and spent most of my time wandering aimlessly around the gym not knowing how to use the machines and attempting to copy the women I had seen on Instagram, without having any knowledge on how to progress or what I was actually doing.
I had lost all confidence in myself and was tired of disliking the way I looked and not doing anything about it. I decided it was time to do something about it, time to focus on myself, gain the knowledge and confidence I needed and make a change to my lifestyle.
I am still working towards my end physical goal but am well on my way and have already learnt a lot on my fitness journey.
So far I have gained massively in strength, lifting and squatting heavier than I thought I could and this is still progressing.
At 4ft 11 and an already small size 8 frame, losing weight was not my main goal but instead was to tone up and generally feel happier and healthier. I have however lost weight and now have a much smaller waist and arms. I have also gained in areas which I particularly wanted to work on to emphasise my hourglass figure, such as my thighs and bum!
I've even grown in height! Starting at 4ft 11 and now finally making it to 5ft! All down to posture and strength training!
When I first started I had very little confidence and self-esteem, I had lost all of this from a particularly bad relationship.
I didn’t like the way I looked, I was embarrassed and shy at the gym and didn’t put myself out there.
When starting personal training, I didn’t really imagine this side of myself changing; I just thought about the physical changes that I could make, however my mental health is where I have seen some of the major changes in myself.
The physical changes I have made have impacted on my confidence; I finally have the confidence to walk around the gym in sports bras and leggings instead of covering up in black floaty tops.
I walk with more confidence not only in the gym but outside as well. My growth in confidence hasn’t all been about vanity; knowing I can reach my fitness goals gives me an "I can do it" attitude and encourages me to push myself harder.
The knowledge I have gained at the gym has also given me more confidence to do simple things such as go to the gym on my own and talk to other gym goers (these may seem like small things but these are things I never thought I would do). Stepping on to the gym floor, I used to feel intimidated; I now have the confidence in my own ability.
Fitness has now become ingrained in my way of life. Fitness and health is no longer something I have to think about, it is now just part of my everyday routine.
It has had a large impact on my relationship, myself and my partner started similar journeys in fitness at the same time. Our training is something we actively encourage in each other and has encouraged us to try new activities, we recently tried Gorge walking and indoor skydiving and I will be taking part in my first 5K run in a few weeks' time. We actively look for activities that will help us both in our fitness goals and regularly attend Salsa lessons and hiking at the weekend. My relationship with myself, my body and food is much better! I now see the gym as a way of keeping myself physically and mentally happy."
